About Us

Clayfield Baptist Church is a small community-based church in the northern suburbs of Brisbane, Australia.  We are a people who follow the Lord in a sincere way, to reach our community with hope, support and love.

Our beliefs are embodied in the Purpose Statements on the left, and we share core values with the Queensland Baptists family of churches. 

Our Heritage

As part of the Back To Clayfield celebrations in October 2005, a 36-page booklet describing the history of Clayfield Baptist Church and its local community (back to our first free settlers' roots) was published.  It is available in PDF format here.

We are proud to be a local, community-based church who, for over 120 years, has been sharing the life-changing love of Jesus, and bringing hope & support to those in our neighbourhood.

Our Pastor

Pastor David Champness has a real passion for serving God. His desire is to see everyone develop a deep relationship with God; a relationship that is based on God’s Word and also a personal experience of God in their lives.

David Champness was first called to ministry in 2001, having left NSW to attend Theological College. Since starting college he has ministered at Kenmore Baptist Church, Moore Park Baptist Church (Indooroopilly) and is now the pastor here at Clayfield Baptist Church.

David Champness is supported in ministry by his wife, Kerry, and their two children (Jesse and Mikayla). The Champness family love to help other families through the struggles of life and to show God’s Love in word and in deed.
