Report from the QB Board after the 2019 Assembly
We are very excited and thankful to God that the 2019 Annual QB Assembly strongly affirmed all the Review Recommendations from the QB Board. Thanks for all the input before the Assembly that shaped the Recommendations and enabled the actual Assembly discussion to flow so smoothly. Still, it was a courageous step for Queensland Baptists to adopt changes that will bring transformation to our Movement. We continue to believe and pray that this will usher in a new move of God’s Spirit right through the QB Movement.
The Assembly has given the QB Board 12 months to implement the necessary changes. We will need all of this time because there are significant structural issues to address. The first step will be the appointments of a Director of the QB Movement (DoM) and a Director of QB Services (DoS). Position Descriptions for these two roles were released last Friday evening. These appointments will of course have to come back to the QB Assembly for final approval. The right leadership will be vital to the future of the QB Movement so please pray that God will be leading the people he wants to apply for these roles. The QB Board is taking these appointments so seriously that it has chosen to become the interview panel. All the elected Board members will be involved. The Board will let you know as soon as it is ready to bring recommendations for these roles (probably around the end of June). For your information and prayer, the overview of the Possible Implementation Timetable (included in the Review Report) follows this report.
There are still a few things to tidy up as a result of the Convention and Assembly discussions:
We will add the DoM and DoS as direct reports on the QB Board role description (the DoS is also accountable to the DoM).
We will find a place for the Baptist military chaplains (possibly as a non-geographic Region with a Regional Minister responsible).
We will start working on a Constitutional review.
We will continue to assess how to effectively support pastors’ spouses and families.
As was stated at the Assembly, we will continue to review and hone the recommended structure over the next 12 months and report on this to our churches. The implementation of such significant change will inevitably lead to some unforeseen challenges that will need rethinking and adjustment. Don’t hesitate to continue to feed in ideas to us. Hopefully, by the time the new structure is enshrined in our Constitution at the next Assembly we will have sorted out the problematic issues.
There are still huge challenges that lie ahead as we seek to implement change and develop new structures and culture. It will take a powerful work of God for the vision to be achieved, but we are praying and are faith-filled. Please support us in prayer.

"Missional Discipleship" Learning Community
QBY&YA invites Pastors and leaders to join the journey to Build a discipleship culture throughout our State. With only a few weeks left to register for the "Missional Discipleship" Learning Community, we thought we would give you all the opportunity join in with Queensland specific BDC community.
"My involvement in a learning community like this has been a massively formational part of my journey thus far. I commend it to you!" (Rev Geoff Eggins)
"Having been a part of these learning communities over the past three years has really heightened my awareness of the importance of intentional discipleship. Firstly in my own personal life, the way I myself live as a disciple, and secondly how I lead my church, ministries and leaders; both to intentionally disciple them, and train them how to disciple others in a practical and sustainable way" (Rev Dean Sandham)
