Thoughts to Ponder

The Dancer

submitted by Ray & Patty Overend

"The people walking in darkness have seen a great light."

In a worldview course at a local Christian College, a young education student (Joanna) has recently written an outstanding assignment in which she says:

"God is Love. God is Creator. God is also Light. Light is God. The two are inseparable. As I draw near to Him in relationship, and as I enjoy my God-given creativity, He then creates within me. God wants me to allow Him to inspire my mind. He wants to fill it with light and give me eyes to see and mind to understand. He wants to participate with me in my creating. He wants to be the one who inspires my thoughts and my actions, not just in my creating beautiful things but in the every day life also.

"One time during Chapel, Joanne (the librarian) shared a beautiful picture of her relationship with God and I adopted it as my own also. In life God becomes the Master Dancer, I, His partner. Together we dance, and as I follow His footsteps and leading, we create a beautiful pattern, a creativity that is beautifully expressed in a joyful celebration of life. I love this idea, not just the concept of it but because I too love to dance.

"God gave me a creativity to express my thoughts and feelings through the means of dance. As I dance in worship and prayer, I feel God flowing within me, inspiring me, and assisting me in my creation. Yet also I feel that I am giving back to Him and that I am also giving Him pleasure. I delight in giving my best, I love the power of creativity that flows within me. The pleasure I feel when I create a dance (or when I write a story, or when I organise), the pleasure I derive from that is worship.

"God then not only becomes my Dance Partner in life (Relationship), but the Dance Designer (Creativity) and the Dance Inspirer (Inspiration). His desire therefore is to take this dance and share it with a danceless-songless world."

Whether you go with the feminine metaphor of Joanne and Joanna or you have another, we trust that your 2003 is filled with the Light of which they speak!
